Cramlington Cancer Roadshow

To work with Cramlington Town Council to co‑deliver a cancer awareness roadshow, improving access to local cancer‑related services and ensuring the public understood what support was available and how to reach it.

Why This Matters

Many people are unaware of the services, organisations, and support available throughout the cancer pathway, from early signs and symptoms to treatment and beyond. Bringing partners directly into the heart of the community reduces barriers, increases awareness, and helps ensure that people can get the help they need at the right time.

What we did

We partnered with Cramlington Town Council and coordinated with local cancer pathway services to create a one‑day event at Manor Walks Shopping Centre (with their kind permission).
Around 200 members of the public engaged with the roadshow.
A wide range of partners attended, covering early detection, screening, treatment pathways, and living‑with‑and‑beyond‑cancer support.
We supported members of the public on the day, including one neurodivergent resident who was attending their first chemotherapy appointment at the Newcastle Hospitals Centre located within Manor Walks. Our team walked with them, supported their husband, and ensured they felt calm, informed, and safe.
Koast Radio attended to film short informational clips from each partner so that those who could not attend can still access the information and so partners have free promotional resources.
To boost visibility and community engagement, the Ashington Male Voice Choir performed throughout the event.

Outcomes

What we achieved!
The event significantly increased awareness of local cancer support services and strengthened connections between partners and the community. Engagement was high, with nearly 200 people reached. The real‑time support provided to individuals, especially the neurodivergent patient attending their first chemo, showed the value of having responsive, compassionate support present on the day. The upcoming Koast Radio videos will extend the impact further, ensuring information remains accessible. This collaborative work is ongoing and will continue to develop.
