Call For Action – Stronger Together

To work collaboratively with the Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre (SBIC) to support their community, elevate the findings of previous work completed with Macmillan, and ensure the recommendations were acted upon rather than forgotten.

Why This Matters

SBIC’s community had already shared vital insights through earlier reports. Ensuring these insights lead to real change is essential for improving access, awareness, and culturally appropriate support. This work strengthens trust, ensures voices are genuinely heard, and helps services respond to what communities say they need.

What we did

We approached SBIC to explore how we could work together in a meaningful way. Together we planned and delivered two key events. These sessions provided clarity on what is working well and what needs to happen next, building a strong shared understanding between the community and professionals.
Community Thematic Check‑In Event – A community‑based day attended by over 100 people for health screening, awareness sessions, and focus groups to understand what has changed since the original reports and what still needs to happen.
Influential Partner Workshop – A follow‑up event attended by more than 40 key professionals to share examples of good practice, respond to the themes raised by the community, and explore opportunities for collaborative action.

Outcomes

What we achieved!
The project successfully revived and strengthened the profile of SBIC’s earlier Macmillan‑supported work, ensuring the findings were not lost. We gathered current community insights, identified clear themes for action, and brought influential partners together to start shaping the next steps. This work is ongoing, with further updates planned, and will form a key focus for our programme into 2026–27.
