Boys Need Bins

To expand and strengthen the Boys Need Bins campaign across the North East and North Cumbria by working collaboratively with local partners and using lived experience to drive change.

Why This Matters

There is a growing need to raise awareness of the importance of providing appropriate disposal bins for boys and young men who menstruate or experience related health conditions. Supporting this work helps reduce stigma, promotes dignity, and encourages organisations across the region to adopt more inclusive facilities and policies.

What we did

We partnered with Councillor Ken Dawes from South Tyneside Council to build a regional NENC campaign structure.
We developed resources, including images and letter templates, and added them to our website.
We used social media and every available platform to raise awareness and encourage individuals and organisations to get involved.
Ken also recorded his story digitally with Lesley Goodman to amplify the message and now volunteers as a public voice within the South Tyneside and Sunderland Patient and Carer Collaborative.

Outcomes

What we achieved!
The campaign is gaining visibility, strengthening partnerships, and created accessible tools for wider community engagement. Ken’s lived experience story has enhanced the campaign’s authenticity and reach. We now have a solid foundation to build on as we move into 2026–27, focusing on deeper impact measurement and further expansion.
